NHRMA Award for Chapter Excellence

Honoring Randy Lundberg

This award recognizes SHRM professional chapters in the NHRMA region for outstanding achievement in programming and operations. This award is named for Randy Lundberg who, as NHRMA’s Awards and Recognition Director, was designing an award to recognize NHRMA Chapter Achievements at the time of his death in 1994. Randy was a member of the Rogue Valley SHRM chapter.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, the SHRM professional chapter must be in good standing.

Award Criteria

To be considered for this award, the chapter must show outstanding achievement and excellence in programming and operations. Examples include, but are not limited to, the following

  • Creative programs designed to meet the professional development needs of chapter members
  • Innovative programs designed to promote certification
  • Programs to enhance workplace literacy and meet the needs of employers and job seekers
  • Programs to improve community relations, education, diversity, work and family issues
  • Programs designed to facilitate the advancement of entry-level practitioners into the HR profession

Nomination Procedure

A Chapter President may nominate their own chapter and a State Council Director may nominate one or more chapters from within their state (with the support of the chapter president).

All nominations are to be made using the Chapter Excellence Nomination Form below. Prior to submitting a nomination, please review the eligibility and award criteria above and make sure you have all the required documents saved in MS Word format for uploading.

Information that will be required in the nomination form:
  • Program (Project) Title
  • Chapter Name
  • Chapter’s City and State
  • Chapter Size
  • Chapter President’s Name, Email, Phone Number
  • Name, Email, and Phone Number of person submitting nomination (i.e., nominator)
  • Nomination Statement (500 words maximum) - a description of the project or achievement and how it is consistent with the mission of the chapter and supports its members. Where appropriate, indicate chapter members involved in developing and implementing the program or project.
  • Optional - Attach the chapter’s most recent year's SHRM Impact Award nomination.

Recipient Awards

One chapter will be selected from each state. Recipients will receive the following:

  • $1,000 to be used toward chapter initiatives or to offset chapter meeting costs
  • Article in the NHRMA blog summarizing achievement
  • NHRMA social media posts reognizing the chapter's achievement
  • Formal recognition at the NHRMA Annual Conference
  • Free registration for the NHRMA conference for a chapter representative (to be used in the year of recognition)
  • Travel and up to 3 nights accommodations for the NHRMA conference (to be used in the year of recognition)

Briefly (approximately one page saved in a Word document) describe the project or achievement and how it is consistent with the mission of the chapter and its members. Where appropriate, list chapter members who were involved in developing and producing the project or achievement.

In lieu of a formal summary, chapters may submit their prior years’ Impact (formerly Excel) award they sent to SHRM. For example, To be considered for the 2026 NHRMA chapter award, chapters would submit the Impact award they submitted from their 2025 chapter goals.
